A 19th century watercolor floral still life paintingby Leonard Johannes de Gijselaar (1827-1890). The work is painted in great detail using various techniques. The result is a powerful still life with colorful flowers in classic vase on a table/side.
Rare work in the oeuvre of De Gijselaar, best known for his landscapes.
Previously auctioned, in probably, the 30s based on the auction sticker and pasted description of the work in the auction catalog, on the back of the original baroque gold frame with glass, leaving the work in a very good condition.
Little is known about the life and work of Leonard Johannes de Gijselaar. He lived in Amsterdam, was a shipor by profession and painted romantic landscapes and sea and river views with ships.
