The artwork is made with the woodcut technique. Here, the artist cuts out a drawing with a special knife in soft wood, in which the parts that must remain white are cut out. The wood is then rolled up with ink and then printed on paper. The high parts are printed in mirror image in this way. In the artwork of Joris Geurts, this technique is clearly recognisable by the wood grains
Information about Joris Geurts
Joris Geurts (born in Oss, 1958) has built up an impressive oeuvre and is represented in important museum and company collections. For example, his work can be seen in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Museum Boijmans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam, but also in the Bouwfonds art collection. Graphic techniques, and in particular woodcuts, play an important role in his work. In the work of Joris Geurts, his figurative elements can be traced back, but he is not concerned with imagining reality. The figuration is only a means to create a strong image.
